SOP FOR CONDUCTING EXAMS

The Union Health Ministry has issued the standard operating procedures for conducting examinations in the prevailing pandemic situation. Since examination centres would be frequented by plenty of students and staffs hailing from different areas during the examinations, it is necessary to publish procedures and protocols, keeping safety in concern.

The educational institutions, universities and other exam conducting authorities have been instructed to schedule exams alternately to avoid overcrowding of exam centres. Exams can be conducted only in the centres outside containment zones. Only asymptomatic students and staff will be allowed inside the examination hall. Students/examinees from containment zones would be allowed to attend exams through other means or allowed to attend exams on a later date.

In case an examinee is found to be symptomatic and insists on attending exams, he/she will be allowed to attend exams in an isolated room. The permission shall be granted as per the policy set forth by the examination conducting authorities. In the case of differently-abled candidates availing a scribe, both of them have to follow all the procedures in concern with safety.

Those staff at higher risk like older employees, pregnant ladies and employees having underlying medical conditions will not be deployed for examination duties. Such staffs will be utilised for other duties requiring no direct interactions with the public.

The seating arrangement will be made accordingly to maintain social distancing. Safe drinking water will be made available in examination halls preferably in disposable glasses. For pen and paper-based exams, the invigilators have to sanitise hands before distribution of question papers and answer sheets. Examinees also will sanitise hands before receiving papers and handing over answer sheets to invigilators. The collection and packing of answer sheets have to involve sanitisation of hands at every stage. The answer sheets will be opened only after 72 hours after its collection. Use of saliva for counting of papers shall not be permitted. Likewise, sharing of personal belongings also shall not be permitted. In case of an examinee developing symptoms during the examination, s/he should be isolated immediately and allowed to attend the examination. If symptoms deteriorate, the respective medical facilities have to be informed immediately.
