Every year, a humongous number of students are graduating. How will you stand out and take up a job in your dream company? The competition is high since the job aspiring and qualified candidates are also high. Though companies look at the school where you have graduated, it’s not always given weightage. When conducting interviews for fresh graduates, employers consider that you are yet to have experience. What they’re looking for is if you have the necessary skills needed for the position and if you meet the company’s standards. - Teamwork skill - This is one of the main skills you should possess. You are going to work with a team working to achieve a common goal. Hence, coordination and collaboration are necessary. Hereafter, your independent efficiency is no more praised if you are not a good team player. You should be able to adapt to the circumstances and the other members of your team to accomplish tasks on time and achieve your goal.
- Communication skills - Good communication skills is an added advantage. It will help you excel in your tasks. Excellent oral and written communication skills can make you a deserving candidate for any job role. In an era where you can work for any company sitting at your home or in a different country, communication skills are mandatory to share and understand ideas and information. Acquiring good communication skills will improve your chance of getting a job.
- Interpersonal skills - It is an inevitable quality you should possess, not only for getting employed but also to be a good individual. You have to treat people in a good manner and with respect. A receptionist and a CEO have to be respected the same way. If you know to treat people well, you can achieve success. A company would take pride in employing individuals with good interpersonal skills.
- Leadership skills - It doesn’t mean to sit idle and make others work. A good leader will motivate all his/her team members to perform well and try to bring out the best in everyone. It also shows that you have good decision-making skills. Having leadership skills will enhance your impression and you can end up taking over managerial positions in the future. Therefore, you should not forget to mention your leadership skills in your resume.
- Problem-solving skills - You may have to face various issues while going ahead with your duties and tasks. An employer looks for a person who can face those problems and bring solutions instantly. You can also put forward your ideas and thoughts in managing a problem, though you are a fresher.
- Time management skills - Time is an important resource in the corporate world. First impressions can leave the best impression about yourself. It would be best to be punctual for your interview. Being punctual means you have to be early by at least 15 minutes. Your punctuality shows your interest and how good you are at time management skills. It is also a reflection of how well you prioritize your tasks and accomplish them on or before time.
- Able to work under minimal supervision - Being a professional is different from being a student. Till the time you are a student, you may undertake your tasks by seeking help or someone will be there to supervise/guide you. Do not expect someone to teach you everything when you are an employee. You have to learn things on your own. You should be able to work with minimal supervision. This also will be analyzed while being interviewed. No employer will look to burden themselves with an under-qualified resource.
- Innovative and Creative - Hiring employers are on the lookout for individuals who can bring something new to their company and those who can think outside the box. Having an honest analysis of your skills and capabilities and taking the path to self-improvement will impact your eligibility to chase after your dream job. You may be freshly graduated but the employer that you would like to be a part of would like to know how you can contribute to their growth.
- Computer knowledge - Having a basic knowledge of computers and various software will also enhance your eligibility. We are living in an era where we work electronically. The technology has advanced so much that it made a lot of manual work simple and easy to perform. Thus, you should know how to execute functions using a computer. Basic skills would be enough since the employer would give you training on how to work with their software.
