Paramedics and emergency medical technicians are supposed to respond to emergency calls from patients who may be having a heart attack or any other issue in-home or highway. They are found in the ambulances to provide instant care for the patients. They also provide first-level medical care or emergency care for the injured or sick people at the spot and that may be in-home, highway, accident site, or any other places. After providing the emergency care, they do transport them to the hospital for further care.

Emergency medical technicians typically work in a team and provide life-saving emergency care to the patients effectively. They are differentiated into four categories:

  • Emergency medical responders: trained to provide immediate care for critical patients. They manage the on-scene interventions but not the initial caregivers.
  • Emergency medical technicians: manages the basic interventions in order to save lives and reduce further risks. Same as the responders but possess skills needed to transport them to the hospitals.
  • Advanced emergency medical technicians: does everything the above category can do and also does some limited advanced interventions too.
  • Paramedics: most skilled emergency responders who are capable to do invasive and pharmacological interventions. They need to successfully complete a nationally accredited paramedic program at the degree level.
